Scientists believe that they have found human footprints that are at least 800,000 years old.

The footprints were discovered in England and are the earliest evidence of human life in Northern Europe and the oldest footprints ever found outside Africa.

Up to five different sets of footprints were found in ancient estuary mud in Happisburgh.

Scientists believe that the footprints belong to a human ancestor that died out 800,000 years ago. The fossil remains of this ancestor have been found in Spain.
