Rain across most of the country today dampens the likelihood of a clear evening to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. With rain covering most of the North Island and showers along the east cost of the South, it is unlikely that the cloudy periods, chilly temperatures and showery spells will pass before night falls. Nevertheless many city councils across the country have planned a night of celebration including Christchurch’s, “Spooked On the Pier” Fireworks event at New Brighton Beach. Wellington will have their Firework Display on the 9th of November across the Wellington harbor for which the forecast is expected to improve.
Local authorities are urging people to consider the effects of fireworks on pets and livestock and are encouraging individuals to always follow the manufactures safety advice on the packaging. While the number of emergency calls surrounding fireworks has decreased in recent years, police are urging the public to remember that fireworks are explosives that should be treated with the utmost care.
