A 3.5-meter-tall puppet called Little Amal has arrived in the UK.

The puppet has been created to represent the story of young refugees traveling from war-torn Syria. The aim of the journey has been to show the difficulties many refugees face to reach a safe place.

She started her 5,000km journey on 27 July in Turkey and has walked, with the help of eleven puppeteers, across Europe to reach the shores of Kent in the south of England.

She was greeted by a crowd of local children who celebrated her arrival.

The word ‘Amal’ means ‘hope’ in Arabic and was created by the Handspring Puppet Company.

So far, Little Amal has visited Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, and France. In Italy, she met with Pope Francis in Rome.
