A 14-year-old New Zealand boy has become the youngest known New Zealander to climb Mt Kilamanjaro.
Lachlan McKinnon, a Cambridge High School student, and his sister Laura, 16, reached the summit earlier this month.
Mt Kilamanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain in the world, stands at a height of 5895m.
The climb was part of a family trip to Tanzania, that they had been planning for sometime.
“It was something we decided as a family that we’d like to do,” said Mr McKinnon.
The whole family is keen on walking, with both children regularly out tramping in their spare time.
