A water utility company in Cadiz, Spain, realised that one of their employees had called in sick 6 years ago and had been absent ever since!

The discovery happened while the company was considering Joaquin Garcia for a loyal-service award. Joaquin’s absence went unnoticed for over 6 years even though he still received NZ$62,900 each year in pay.

The company says that they believed Joaquin had transferred back to the city hall to work.

Mr Garcia has been ordered to pay $52,000 in compensation but he has responded by filing a complaint saying that it was his boss’ fault for failing to notice that he was not at work.

He also says that he visited his office but that there was nothing for him to do and that he was also bullied at work.

What do you think? Should Joaquin need to repay the money?

  1. No, because the boss failed to notice and the company ran fine with one less person and giving away money to him so thats there problem not his.

  2. No way, The boss didn’t even notice and he could care less! So my opinion is he should keep the money maybe he was doing work from home, That’s my point the company didn’t notice, Care they didn’t go bankrupt or anything like that so he deserves the money! 🙂

  3. the boss didn’t notice so boo him but he should pay back one years worth if he was bullied he should of gone to his boss for support and he should have been given work by his boss.why does his boss deserve the job

  4. He should not its not fair, the boss didn’t even notice what if he has gone missing or something?

  5. thats bull that apparently he got bullied and that the boss didnt give any work. he should of asked or at least gone in and told his boss that he was there. i reckon he should give back all money
