Kill-joy authorities in Uzbekistan have reportedly placed an unofficial ban Valentine's Day and romance-themed activities on February 14th.

Uzbekistan is said to have cancelled a series of events which had been planned to celebrate Valentine's Day.

As such residents in the capital city of Tashkent will no longer be able to attend outdoor concerts but instead listen to readings of poems by 16th century Mughal emperor Babur.

The country has a long-standing dislike of Valentine's Day and last year a national newspaper described it as "putting an end to national values".
