Black caps blowT20 decider

Written by  Sporty Sam 23 February 2012
Having dominated the first 80 per cent of the match, New Zealand's batsmen stumbled with the winning post in sight, losing by three runs and handing South Africa a 2-1 series win - and momentum going into the start of the three-game ODI rubber in Wellington on Saturday.

Requiring 166, New Zealand butchered the win, needing 15 off the last three overs with six wickets standing, and seven from the final over. South Africa held their nerve, NZ dropped theirs. Barely believably, they lost three for four off the last eight balls. Jesse Ryder marked his return to the national side with a breezy 52.

He should have been there at the end, only to depart to a daft scoop shot, caught at short fine leg in the penultimate over, which precipitated NZ's slide.
