Levi ton leads South Africa to victory

Written by  Sporty Sam 20 February 2012
New Zealand had no answer for South Africa's Richard Levi in Hamilton tonight, as the opener put on a power-hitting master class to level the Twenty20 series.

The boundaries at Seddon Park were of no match for Levi, as the 24-year-old hit the fastest ever century in T20 internationals and also broke the record for most sixes in an innings to lead his side to an eight-wicket win. In just his second match for South Africa, Levi put the Black Caps bowlers over the fence 13 times in a 51-ball knock of 117, making child's play of New Zealand's first innings total of 173-4.

New Zealand probably felt their total was 20 runs short but as it turned out, that mattered little. Levi saw his side across the line with four overs to spare, and the way he was seeing the ball 200 would have proved too few. His heroics saw South Africa level the series at one match apiece, setting up a decider at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday.
